Our Recommendations for the Weekend of 3/23 to 3/26

Events going on in and around Providence this weekend.

Family Fun

Breakfast with the Animals at Roger Williams Park Zoo

Marco Polo’s adventure brought him face-to-face with the exotic animals of the Silk Road, and so will yours! Start by dining on a hot buffet, then after breakfast you’ll join zookeepers that care for the animals of Marco Polo’s Adventure Trek in opening for the day; climb into the bear exhibit to prep the space for its occupants, get face-to-face with a camel, see the snow leopards, red pandas, cranes and takin get their first enrichment of the day, and experience the thrill of watching the Zoo come alive.

Annie Jr.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930’s New York City. This children’s adaptation is based on the Tony Award-winning Best Musical and features everyone’s favorite little redhead and her lovable mutt named Sandy.

Museums

An American in Paris

The Wheeler School and the Chazan Gallery at Wheeler are pleased to present An American In Paris, a solo show of drawings by Mary Colman Wheeler, The Wheeler School founder. This show is part of the events and exhibits celebrating women in the arts in Providence during the month of March.

Theatre/Performance

She Would If She Could

AS220 Blackbox

Head Trick Theatre’s spring 2017 show, follows the clever, the lustful, and the oblivious through the houses, public gardens, and restaurants of Restoration London. Full of verbal wit and physical farce by turns, George Etherege’s comedy gently mocks both human failings and theatrical conventions through the adventures of Ned Courtall, Gatty and Ariana, Sir Oliver and Lady Cockwood, and their respective wingmen/women.

The Nether

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre

Log in. Choose an identity. Live out your private dreams. This is life in the Nether—a lush, virtual wonderland offering total sensory immersion, free of judgment and, seemingly, consequence. But when a real-world cop discovers a disturbing form of entertainment in “The Hideaway” realm, she triggers a virtual investigation with gasp-worthy revelations and an unimagined result. Part fairy tale, part sci-fi thriller, The Nether is a taut, haunting and highly original play for our times.
