PVD Fest
Live music, dance, food, and visual art installations transform the city in a four-day, multi-arts take-over of public spaces, parks, and outdoor stages in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. Providence is the Creative Capital and Mayor Jorge Elorza invites you to perform, create and sell with Providence’s own artistic talent. In its third year, PVDFest will expand to explore art education and public art installations, building on the success of the first two years of the festival.

Riverdance – The 20th Anniversary World Tour
The international Irish dance phenomenon is back by popular demand in RIVERDANCE – The 20th Anniversary World Tour. Drawing on Irish traditions, the combined talents of the performers propel Irish dancing and music into the present day, capturing the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures in an innovative and exciting blend of dance, music, and song. Of all the performances to emerge from Ireland – in rock, music, theatre, and film – nothing has carried the energy, the sensuality, and the spectacle of RIVERDANCE.
Riverdance – The 20th Anniversary World Tour is composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty, and directed by John McColgan, and comes directly to North America from a sold out run across Europe and Asia.

WHEM – The Horse-Eyed Men, Frank Hurricane, Sam Moss
The Horse-Eyed Men are Noah and Dylan Harley, two brothers who play original disgruntled Americana and country. Raised by musical humans in a former candy store outside of Providence R.I., their music mixes spaghetti-western themes with cabaret, ragtime, and post-partum punk. Grave Country, their latest record, was recorded in Copenhagen on a grant from the Danish Arts Council in the summer of 2013.

Our juried, urban Flea launched in June 2013 and is held outdoors* in the summer and fall every Sunday, and indoors* in Winter and early Spring with unusual finds, art, vintage fashion and accessories, local crafts, curiosities, antique and refinished furniture, food trucks and carts, live music and more. This will be our 5th summer season, and we’re super-excited about it!

SeenUnseen: Providence Outdoor Installation
In Seen/Unseen, photographer Mary Beth Meehan has transformed downtown Providence with eight billboard-scale portraits of city residents. Up to forty feet in height, the photographs draw on the power of portraiture to inspire connection and mirror the city back to itself. The work has prompted conversations city-wide about urban identities, socioeconomic invisibility, the modern role of physical media, and the segregated nature of a multi-ethnic city such as Providence.
Cranston Street Armory Activated by Art
In partnership with the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, the RISD Art Circle (RAC) and Museum Artist Fellow Walker Mettling will participate in the “Cranston Street Armory Activated by Art” an experimental auxiliary arm of PVDFest that will take place Sunday June 4th in Dexter Field adjacent to the Cranston St. Armory.
In the northwest corner of the park, RAC and Walker will bring together local artists and designers who will transform rented U-Haul moving trucks into dynamic interactive experiences. This pop-up mobile gallery project will be shaped by community exchange across neighborhoods and ages.

Astrid Reischwitz stitches the past, present and future together in her series of photographs titled Stories From the Kitchen Table. Each image combines a narrative motif from the family farm in rural Germany capturing a fading way of life – the potato harvest, hand embroidered linens and clothing, clotheslines and farmhouse sinks – with her retelling of the tales she heard at the kitchen table, the heart of family and village life, in composite photographs.
David Zapatka presents selections from his project Stars & Lights. In October 2013, he began a still photography project capturing lighthouses in all six New England states as well as those in New York and New Jersey. The seed for this project was planted around 2010 sitting on his boat off Dutch Island in Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay. The lighthouse there had just been renovated and it looked beautiful under the stars at night. At the time, it was difficult for him to gain access to the island but by summer 2013 he purchased an inflatable boat allowing him to navigate shallow water and rocks. Since then David has photographed all the Rhode Island lighthouses on the darkest of dark nights during the monthly new moon phase, with temperatures as low as 8°F.

Southern New England Heart Walk
The Southern New England Heart Walk brings together more than 8,000 walkers in downtown Providence, Rhode Island and in Dartmouth, Massachusetts for a two-mile and 3.5-mile walk. Corporations, family and friends form teams to raise awareness and funds for the fight against heart disease and stroke. Funds raised are used to fund research, advocate for health and save lives. American Heart Association investments have helped to bring “heart milestones” such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), microsurgery, heart valve replacement, coronary bypass surgery, the pacemaker and drug treatments for high blood pressure and congestive heart failure.
