Our Recommendations for the Weekend of 6/29 – 7/2

Events going on in and around Providence this weekend.

 Art & Culture
Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story – Newportfilm Outdoors

Join us for this week’s newportFILM Outdoors screening… BOMBSHELL: THE HEDY LAMARR STORY.

Hollywood star Hedy Lamarr was known as the world’s most beautiful woman – Snow White and Cat Woman were both based on her iconic look. However, her arresting looks and glamorous life stood in the way of her being given the credit she deserved as an ingenious inventor whose pioneering work helped revolutionize modern communication. Mislabeled as “just another pretty face,” Hedy’s true legacy is that of a technological trailblazer. Free admission!

Also experience Hope Street Farmers Market, offering prepared foods on food trucks along with fresh fruits and veggies by local farmers. Shop consciously and enjoy the day! Cait Marchetti Jewelry will be attending on Saturday, June 17th. Shop consciously and enjoy the day!

SeenUnseen

In Seen/Unseen, photographer Mary Beth Meehan has transformed downtown Providence with eight billboard-scale portraits of city residents. Up to forty feet in height, the photographs draw on the power of portraiture to inspire connection and mirror the city back to itself. The work has prompted conversations city-wide about urban identities, socioeconomic invisibility, the modern role of physical media, and the segregated nature of a multi-ethnic city such as Providence.
