aerplaye

Rhode Island’s newest dance project, Aerplaye™, will present two performances of the premier of In Full Flight at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Great Hall, 50 Orchard Ave., Providence, RI. The concerts occur on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00PM and 4:00PM. This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, through an appropriation by the Rhode Island General Assembly and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets for the event are available here , or may be purchased at the door, and are $10 general, $5 for students and seniors. Seating is general admission and no one will be denied entry for lack of ability to pay.

In Full Flight is a dance and theatre exploration of the wonders and worries of the modern frequent traveler. Featuring flying luggage, a tongue-in-cheek visit to the “golden age” of air travel, intriguing in-air interviews, and the danced version of flying, this turbulent work is quite the ride. After each performance there will be a brief feedback period for this evolving work.

The dancers featured in the concert are Heather Ahern, Jamie Arnold, Shura Baryshnikov, Christine Poland, Kathy Gordon Smith, and many special guest dancers from the greater Providence community.

The concert features new work from Artistic Director, Heather Ahern in collaboration with the dancers. A former founding member and Co-artistic Director of Groundwerx Dance theatre, Ahern is well known to local dance enthusiasts. Groundwerx enjoyed a national reputation, touring and performing for fifteen years. Ahern recently returned to the area from California after a ten-year scholastic and professional sojourn during which she graduated with honors, and earned her MFA in dance from California State University, Long Beach; taught at Long Beach City College, California State University, Long Beach; and both taught and directed the dance program at West Virginia University.

Ahern and Aerplaye performed their first full length concert Return three times last fall to hundreds of attendees at the RISD Auditorium and Rhode Island College. Aerplaye also performed and was in residence at Rhode Island College, Providence College, and Roger Williams University. The company was very honored to have performed at the Providence Performing Art Center as part of the Bank of America educational series in January.
