Boas & Bowties Gala: A Roaring Twenties Party to Benefit Providence CityArts for Youth

boas and bowties galaProvidence ¡CityArts! for Youth announces our spring fundraising event, Boas and Bowties Gala: A Roaring Twenties Party to Benefit Providence ¡CityArts! for Youth to be held Friday, June 6, 7-10 PM at The Rhode Island School of Design, Woods-Gerry House on Prospect Street. All proceeds from this event will benefit ¡CityArts!’s free afterschool arts education programs for urban at-risk youth in Providence.

The Boas and Bowties Gala promises to be a spectacular event, featuring entertainment provided by The New Providence Big Band (a 19 piece ensemble!), dancing, youth performances, a roaring 20s photo booth, a cash bar, and fare from Russell Morin Fine Catering. The night will also feature silent auctions of original artwork, theme packages, and more. Previous years’ auctioned items included a week-long stay at Sugarloaf, gift certificates to Louie Fuller, Gracie’s, and Pastiche, and a family membership to the RISD museum.

¡CityArts! will present the 4th annual Sister Ann Keefe Award for Creativity and Social Justice to Lynne McCormack, Director of Art, Culture + Tourism for the City of Providence. Since assuming her position in 2006, Lynne has successfully transitioned an office of cultural affairs to a community and economic development model. She is a leader of community engagement, and with her staff, spearheaded a cultural planning process that included over 2,500 participants and was endorsed by the city council as part of the city’s comprehensive plan. Ms. McCormack has worked diligently and passionately to champion the arts and has forged many partnerships that have resulted in a destination branding campaign, a summer workforce development program for youth, citywide arts festivals, and increased funding for artists and organizations through CDBG, HUD, transit and city economic development funds.
