Brown University Alumni Exhibitions: Artist Talks and Reception

brown alumni exhibition part 1

The David Winton Bell Gallery and the Department of Visual Art are pleased to present the first installment of two Alumni Exhibitions in honor of Brown University’s 250th Anniversary. The work of Dawn Clements ’86Paul Ramirez Jonas ’87, and Kerry Tribe ’97 will be on view from February 15 – March 30.

Stop by the List Art Center Auditorium at Brown University on March 7th for an afternoon of artist talks from 3:00 – 6:00 pm.  Dawn Clements, Paul Ramirez Jonas, and Kerry Tribe will each speak, followed by a moderated conversation with Wendy Edwards, Chair of the Department of Visual Arts. A celebratory reception will follow in the List Lobby, 6:00-8:00pm. Free and open to the public.

The six alumni artists involved in both rounds of exhibitions have established significant careers within the visual arts and were chosen to represent a diverse range of media. Incorporating drawings, paintings, sculpture, photographs, videos, and films, the artists create aesthetically diverse works. While there is no identifiable Brownian aesthetic, as Ralph Rugoff ’80 notes in his catalogue essay, “all seem to make art that grows out of expansive and invigoratingly skeptical ways of reading.”  Each in her/his own way, investigates and interprets social and cultural phenomena.
