Providence’s Clean Day on the Greenway

clean day
The Woonasuatucket River Watershed Council, in collaboration with Providence Earth Day Spring Cleaning, and local businesses will come together with hundreds of volunteers to take part in Clean Day on the Greenway!

Clean Day brings hundreds of volunteers together to clean and beautify the Woonasquatucket River and the Fred Lippitt Woonasquatucket River Greenway Bike Path. Our projects include painting benches, signs and fences, weeding and mulching tree wells and plant beds, pulling debris from in and near the river, and more!

We’ll provide water, cool t-shirts, and a celebratory lunch at 1:00 pm!

We welcome children of all ages as long as they are accompanied by an adult (waiver forms must be signed at check-in the morning of the event).

About Woonasquatucket Watershed Council: In 1998, hundreds of watershed residents joined in the successful effort to have the Woonasquatucket River designated as one of fourteen American Heritage Rivers. This important federal designation honors the historic, cultural, economic and environmental significance of this Rhode Island treasure. The 18-mile-long Woonasquatucket River flows through 6 cities and towns in Rhode Island including Glocester, North Smithfield, Smithfield, Johnston, North Providence and Providence, where it flows into the Providence River and out into Narragansett Bay. Since the Woonasquatucket River was designated an American Heritage River many groups have taken an interest in revitalizing the river and the watershed that it runs through.
