Downtown Sundown Concert Series: August 9th

CruzHear In Rhode Island and Roger Williams National Memorial will present several evenings of music featuring local singer-songwriters as part of the Downtown Sundown Series. Experience an “outdoor coffeehouse”. Performers on August 9th include Michelle Cruz, Lily Faith Milne, Dylan Sevey, and Vudu Sister.

Bring a lawn chair, a blanket, and maybe even a picnic dinner and sit on the lawn at the beautiful Roger Williams National Memorial and enjoy FREE concerts by some of the best songwriters Rhode Island has to offer. There is limited parking at the park, but plenty of street parking and pay lots. All ages are welcome to the Downtown Sundown concerts!

About Michelle Cruz: Michelle Cruz is a singer/songwriter who blends jazz, folk and rock in her music. Named “Sultry” by the Jeff Buckley International Newsletter, Michelle (a 3 time Motif Music Awards nominee) has opened for Judy Collins, appeared at WXPN’s World Cafe Live and was asked to pay tribute to the late folk legend Odetta at a 2010 MLK Jr. Day Celebration. Michelle recently landed in the Top 15 for the Lilith Fair Local Talent Search.

Michelle was recently signed to the Nevaeh Recordings Label (NYC) and has been recently nominated for a New England Urban Music Award in the jazz category. Cruz’s songs from her newly released album, “The Recovery”, have been receiving radio attention most recently from programs like “Venus Sings Radio” and other stations such as Boston’s Touch 106.1FM and MVY Radio.

About Lily Faith Milne: Lily Faith Milne is a 16 year old aspiring singer/songwriter from Portland Maine area.  Although her style is ecclectic, she likes to think of herself as a country singer. Her set lists ranges across genres including covers from the Beatles,Louis Armstrong and the Eagles to Miranda Lambert, Jason Maraz, Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift to Linkin Park and Imagine Dragons. Her sets also includes several originals recently recorded on a demo cd.

She has performed in a bunch of different venues from Maine to Florida: Coffee Shops, Bars/Grilles/Restaurants, Pool side at Hotels, State Fairs, Park Concert Series, Private Parties, Churches and Weddings.

About Dylan Sevey: Dylan Sevey is based out of Wakefield, Rhode Island. While he has been active for many years as a drummer in various local bands, he has also always crafted his own songs behind the scenes. HIs band, The Gentlemen, has gained great popularity throughout Providence and New England.

About Vudu Sister: Vudu Sister’s debut album Bastard Children was recorded in the summer of 2011 at Treading Thomas Records. The album includes contributions from some of Rhode Island’s most talented young musicians. Lending such talents to the record are Joe Fletcher & the Wrong Reasons, Tig & Bean, The Famous Winters, Kate Jones of The Sugar Honey Iced Tea, and Michael Samos; whose resume includes Brown Bird, The Silks and Tallahassee.

 

Vudu Sister has had the privilege to be a part of The Low Anthem’s “Newport Homegrown” showcase at the 2013 Newport Folk Festival. Vudu Sister has also shared the stage with such acts as Joe Fletcher and The Wrong Reasons, Dan Blakeslee, The Silks, Tig and Bean, Tallahassee, The Suger Honey Iced Tea, Brown Bird, The Low Anthem, and Alec K. Redfearn and the Eyesores.
