The Glenn Miller Orchestra, the most popular and sought after big band in the world today, will perform for both listening and dancing at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston Thursday evening, July 9. Presented by the Rotary Club of Providence, this delightful summer night of Swing begins at 8:00 pm. Admission is $30 per person; tickets are available at www.ProvidenceRotary.org or by calling 401-209-9547. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world. It was patterned on the hugely successful Glenn Miller Orchestra of the 1930s and 40s, which produced such hits as Tuxedo Junction, In The Mood and Pennsylvania 6-5000. Miller served in the Army during World War II, creating the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band, performing 800 times in less than one year.
