The Newman Congregational Church, UCC, presents a choral concert featuring the premier performance of The Newman Cantata by Steven L. Jobe. The choral concert will also feature Gabriel Faure’s setting of the Requiem Mass.
The Newman Adult Choir, under the direction of Geoffrey Greene, features soloists Alisa Cassola, soprano, Barbara Youmans, alto, Neil Letendre, tenor, and Paul Hutchins, bass.
A Requiem Mass is a Mass for the Dead, and Faure’s setting of the Latin is masterful. His overall musical approach utilizes soft, lush harmonies. He uses warm string and organ accompaniment with bust harmonies in the male voices — the deep sound is nothing short of sublime. The work features a captivating soprano solo of the text, Pie Jesu.
Childcare is provided for this event by a professional staff. A reception will follow the concert with an opportunity to meet the musicians and composer.
