3rd Annual Providence Rotary Jazz Fest at Fête
Nationally known artists Gray Sargent (Tony Bennett’s guitarist) Marshall Wood (Tony Bennett’s bassist), drummer Gary Johnson, Jim Porcella on vocals and introducing Christine Fawson on trumpet and vocals will headline the 3rd Annual Providence Rotary Jazz Fest. The event is at 7:00 pm, Wed., May 7, at the Fete music club, 103 Dike St., in the Olneyville section of Providence.
The program will open with Dan Moretti and the Hammond Boys featuring Dan Moretti on saxes, Dave Limina on Hammond B-3, Lorne Entress on drums, Jesse Williams on bass and Neal Itzler on guitar.
The Providence Rotary Jazz Fest benefits the Providence Rotary Charities Foundation which supports local and international charities involving disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and economic and community development.
Gray Sargent is believed to have played with Tony Bennett longer than other members of the current quartet. He was a member of the Ralph Sharon Quartet and has played with Ruby Braff. He is a recognized jazz and swing guitarist.
As a vocalist and trumpet player, Christine Fawson has always loved performing classic jazz standards from the American Songbook. However, on her new album, My Side, she shows off her songwriting and pop singing abilities. Many of the songs on the album have a jazz influence but with an edge that goes along with her personal storytelling.
Dan Moretti’s musical career has spanned the last 30 years. He started playing tenor sax and clarinet at the age of 12 and the following year was included in the all-state Rhode Island Youth Stage Band where he played the Newport Jazz Festival in 1966. Dan has toured throughout the United States, Europe, Africa, and Russia, and has traveled as far east as India performing and presenting clinics and seminars. His musical influences range from jazz and classical to funk and Latin jazz.
Tickets for the 3rd Annual Providence Rotary Jazz Fest are $35 for general admission with table seating and cash bar (or $70 to include 6 pm VIP pre-show reception attended by the artists) and may be purchased HERE. (All tickets will be available at the ‘will call’ window at Fête on the night of the event. Tickets will not be mailed.)
