As part of our month-long celebration of the 50th-Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, the WaterFire Arts Center will be holding an opening reception for the upcoming Museum of the Moon exhibition. On July 8th, we will get to experience the musical stylings of Judith Stillman and have an enriching discussion with Carter Emmart.
“The wonderful Judith Lynn Stillman plays with conviction and insight. Brilliant! A model of clarity.” – American Record Guide
Judith Stillman, Professor of Music at Rhode Island College, is an educated and seasoned composer, pianist, and artistic visionary. Stillman will be opening the reception with her piece entitled “A Lunar Fantasy”; A new multi-media chamber work with live music, projected images, and spoken word, that takes the audience on a metaphoric, arts-filled Apollo 11 journey from launch to landing.
“My job is to translate the difficulty of science into understandable stories.” — Carter Emmart
Carter Emmart, a noted TED Speaker, exhibition designer, and artist will be hosted by the WaterFire Arts Center. His work shares diverse images coming from NASA and exploration.
As Director of Astrovisualization at the American Museum of Natural History, Emmart has collaborated with scientists, programmers, and artists to direct four shows in the AMNH Hayden Planetarium. Each show displays a unique and immersive space experience for its audience.
