Then, join Ricky Katowicz for “Art in the Park: Maurice Sendak’s Wild World!” free face painting, a mobile playground, and the free green grass of the park keep kids of all ages entertained. Grab lunch from the food truck market for a picnic in the park!
About Storytime and Art in the Park: Families bring a blanket and enjoy different storytellers under the trees near the fountain in Burnside Park followed by art-making with guest artist Ricky Katowicz. With PVD Food Trucks @ Kennedy Plaza (11:30am-1:30pm) And later on Thursday: Family-friendly music series and beer garden from 4:30 – 7:30pm 10:30am: Storytime features at least one story each Thursday morning from a local Rhode Island author, illustrator or storyteller and is accompanied by a mini-mobile playground and facepainting for little ones who have the wiggles, so the whole family can enjoy! 11:30am: Art in the Park -Maurice Sendak’s Wild World! Travel to distant lands! Fly through a night kitchen! Dance a frenzied jig! Burnside Park will transform into a Wild World inspired by the books and characters of Maurice Sendak, Children and their parents (ie. Wild Things) are invited to join guest artist Ricky Katowicz. To build, glue, paint, mold, arrange, fashion, and style. Each making session is to be followed by a glorious display of the work — and a parade… or two… and a photobooth… plus you!
About Anika Denise: Anika Denise is a children’s book author and poet. She has published two picture books: PIGS LOVE POTATOES and BELLA AND STELLA COME HOME, both of which were illustrated by her husband, Christopher Denise. Anika’s forthcoming titles include BAKING DAY AT GRANDMA’S (Philomel, August, 2014/ also illustrated by Chris) and MONSTER TRUCKS! (HarperCollins Children’s Books, Summer, 2016/ illustrated by Nate Wragg.) She lives with her husband and three daughters in Barrington, Rhode Island.
About Christopher Denise: Christopher Denise is an award-winning children’s book illustrator and visual development artist. His first book, a retelling of the Russian folktale The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship, was pronounced “a stunning debut” by Publishers Weekly. Since then, Chris has illustrated more than twenty books for children, including Alison McGhee’s upcoming Firefly Hollow, Rosemary Wells’ Following Grandfather, Phyllis Root’s Oliver Finds His Way, his wife Anika Denise’s Bella and Stella Come Home and some in Brian Jacques’ acclaimed Redwall series. His books have appeared on the New York Times bestseller list and have been recognized by Bank Street College of Education, Parents’ Choice Foundation, and the Society of Illustrators Annual Exhibition. Christopher Denise lives in Rhode Island with his family.
