It’s women making animation from around the world – it’s Womanimation! 2015!
This year’s program, running around 80 minutes, highlights films from North and South America, Europe and the Middle East, and features several US premieres. In spite of the diversity of countries and artistic techniques – from the Dutch stop-motion Munya in Me to the Iranian digital paper of Lady with Flower Hair – there is a common thread that unites the films thematically, with all the films featuring a central female character struggling with self-acceptance.
At each of the three screenings at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm, the festival will present a slideshow with music introducing the filmmakers beforehand, and will include audience voting for their favorite films. Between and after the screenings, DJ Madame B will weave soundscapes created by women across the globe.
A reception catered by Johnson & Wales University culinary artisan Veronica Cockfield rounds out the evening, giving the audience a chance to discuss the films and mingle with festival organizers Toni Pennacchia and partner Paul Elsnau.
This year’s festival is taking place at AS220’s Black Box at 95 Empire Street in Providence, RI – one day only!
