Armory Farmers Market: The market is located at the corner of Parade and Hudson Streets in Providence. Come out and support your local farmers and buy some fresh fruits ad veggies. Begins at 3:30 p.m.

Geometer Exhibition By Steven Pestana : Visit GRIN for the geometer exhibition by artist Steven Pestana. The exhibition runs from October 15th- November 14th.

The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular: A nighttime display of 5,000 illuminated jack-o-lanterns all along the beautiful Wetlands Trail, with well over 100 of the pumpkins carved into veritable works of art. Located at the Roger Williams Park Zoo, opens at 6 p.m.

Burnside Music Series: 4:30 p.m. Each and every Thursday, July 9-September 10, the Trinity Beer Garden will open for business at 4:30 pm. Mill about and sip sangria to the melodious sounds of genius DJs from 4:30-6, and enjoy live music from 6-7.

TIGER, TIGER – NewportFILM Outdoors + Green Screen 6:00 p.m. Join us at the Norman Bird Sanctuary for a screening of TIGER, TIGER, a visionary documentary about the survival of a man dedicating his life to saving an endangered species.You may opt to purchase a ticket to the pre-party ($30) or just come for the screening ($5 suggested donation).

SENE screenings will be held at the Warwick Museum of Art; the days screenings include Soldier in Art: Arthur Szyk, directed by James Ruxin, Late Shift, directed by Sigrun Matthiesen, Lyon Housemuseum, directed by Kerry Gardner, and Who Did It? The Clue VCR Game, directed by Frank Durant and Tim Labonte.

Dining Out For Life is a fun and exciting event in which participating restaurants donate a portion of sales for the day and night to AIDS Project Rhode Island. All you need to do is go out to eat at one of the participating restaurants on April 24th to help spread the word about HIV/AIDS in Rhode Island.

SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival: Limelight Party, 7:00pm

This night of the SENE Festival features an art exhibit, live jazz music, and the Limelight Awards. The Limelight Awards recognize leaders in the film, music, and arts communities of Southeast New England.

Friday, April 25th

SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival: Friday Film Screenings, 4:15pm

This evening of screenings will feature international short films, documentary shorts, the SENE American Showcase Narrative feature, comedy shorts, and horror features. All films will be shown at the Columbus Theatre.

Dark Matter by Meridian Project, 2:00pm

Dark Matter is a multimedia performance that explores cutting edge research in dark matter detection. Dr. Jeremy Chapman, a recent graduate of Brown University’s Particle Astrophysics Group, will discuss the latest development in dark matter research in combination with new music and video projections. The presentation will be complemented by the planetarium’s Zeiss star projector.

Saturday, April 26th

Walk4Wells Walk-a-thon, 8:30am

The Walk4Wells Walk-a-thon is all about YOU taking a walk to gather water, so that a young boy or girl doesn’t have to. The Walk-a-thon is a fundraiser to help Walk4Wells build wells in communities that desperately need them. This particular fundraiser will help build wells in Burkina Faso, a small nation in West Africa.

The Children’s Friend 5K Walk & Run, 8:30am

Join Children’s Friend and Panera Bread on Saturday to raise money for Rhode Island’s most vulnerable children through a 5K walk or run. There will also be live performances, arts and crafts, and food from Panera Bread!

Pawtucket Wintertime Farmer’s Market, 9:00am

Clean Day on the Greenway, 9:00am

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council is taking part in Providence Earth Day Spring Cleaning; local businesses will come together will come together with hundreds of volunteers to clean up the Woonasquatuket River and adjacent bike path. Projects include painting fences, weeding, mulching tree wells and plant beds, and ridding the river of debris.

The New England Family Fun Festival, 11:00am

The New England Family Fun Festival aims to bring a great time to every member of the family. The festival will feature interactive games, fitness, education and family fun, all in one. There will be live performances by dancers, musicians, magicians, and storytellers; there will be karate and gymnastics exhibits, clowns, face painting, dunk tanks, and so much more!

SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival: Saturday Afternoon Film Screenings, 11:00am

The afternoon screenings for the SENE festival will include short films from Hendricken High School, the young filmmakers program, the short film program, the animated short film program, the documentary feature program, and a filmmaker networking brunch.

Aerplaye Dance presents “In Full Flight”, 1:00pm

“In Full Flight” is a dance and theatre exploration of the wonders and worries of the modern frequent traveler. Featuring flying luggage, a tongue-in-cheek visit to the ‘golden age’ of air travel, intriguing in-air interviews, and the danced version of flying. This turbulent work is quite a ride, and following the performance, there will be a brief feedback period to benefit the evolving work.

SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival: Saturday Night Film Screenings, 5:00pm

This night of screenings for the SENE festival includes documentary features, LGBT short films, the American Showcase Narrative features, another short film program, the Regional Narrative Feature Spotlight, and a stand up comedy showcase.

DISCOurse #1: Pinup Opening Reception, 6:00pm

This body of work entitled DISCOurse, uses custom made reflective Mylar pegboard as the conductive substrate for other materials and objects such as smaller paintings, disco balls, digital prints, found photos, holographic tape, tube lights, pipe cleaners, leather, and chain to be attached and arranged.

From Tuesday, April 22nd to Sunday, April 27th SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival will be celebrating six years of bringing independent cinema, music, and art to New England. In these six days, festival attendees will be able to enjoy independent film screenings, live music, art exhibitions, and parties at venues in Providence and Warwick, RI including the historic Columbus TheatreCable Car CinemaWarwick Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Coffee & Tea House. Trinity Repertory Company Presents: Oliver!, 2pm/7:30pm

Kick up your heels and high step along with Trinity Rep’s gritty take on Lionel Bart’s musical, Oliver!, based on the novel “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens. The show brims with familiar songs such as “Food, Glorious Food,” Consider Yourself,” and “I’d Do Anything.”

Boundless Plotnikov at Festival Ballet Providence, 2:30pm

Viktor Plotnikov’s choreography is both artistic and scientific, designed to break the boundaries of human emotion and anatomy. In a single evening, Boundless Plotnikov captures the range of Plotnikov’s creativity. In addition to an encore of last season’s hit premiere, ORCHIS, the program features the RI premiere of SURRENDER, as well as a brand new work.

The photographic portrait exhibit is created by Munir Mohammed and Erin X. Smithers, with biographical information gathered by Linda A’Vant Deishinni through a collaboration with the International Gallery for Heritage and Culture. The portrait exhibit features images of over 75 women from the area who make a difference in our community.

Gallery Night Reception: RETROPICAL, 6pm

This is Anabel Vázquez Rodríguez’s first solo exhibition at Yellow Peril Gallery. From an autobiographical point of view, “RETROPICAL” explores the subaltern identity of a Caribbean native living in New England. “Tropical scenery cuts into the New England bleakness and the use of color and black and white imagery sets in motion a rhythm that reveals the intermediate spaces that come out of this latitudinal relationship.” – Vázquez

Everett Company Presents: A Boy Named Nothing, 7:30pm

Everett Company will present a short performance featuring original song, dance and drama. Presenters will include parent advocate Osiris Harrell, who will share the story of how his daughter’s arrest in school spurred him to action, and Theresa Fox, an English teacher at Nathan Bishop Middle School, who will share her vision of a school that serves all students. Conversation between the audience and presenters will complete the evening.

Friday, March 21st

Salon at the Athenaeum: Nyman and New Music, 5pm

Community MusicWorks violinist Chase Spruill will lead a discussion on composer Michael Nyman at the Providence Athenaeum. This is the opening event of Community MusicWorks’ Nyman North American Premiere Weekend, which will feature the premiere of Nyman’s String Quartet no. 5.

Found Footage Festival, 7:30pm

The Found Footage Festival  showcases videos found at garage sales and thrift stores and in warehouses and dumpsters throughout North America. From the curiously-produced industrial training video to the forsaken home movie donated to Goodwill, the Found Footage Festival resurrects these forgotten treasures and serves them up in a lively celebration of all things found.

Schola Cantorum of Boston: J.S. Bach, 8pm

To celebrate musician Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday (March 21, 1685). the Schola Cantorum of Boston will be performing works from  Florilegium Portense, Lasso, Handl & Martin Roth in Sayles Hall at Brown University. The concert will begin at 8 pm.

Providence College Presents: The Manhattan String Quartet, 7pm

Hailed by the Boston Globe as “a national treasure,” the Manhattan String Quartet is celebrating its 44th season. Well known for their performances of 20th-century “classics,” the Manhattan Quartet has established a significant international reputation with regular concert appearances throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

“Puzzled: Ode (Owed) to Channing” Umberto Crenca Gallery Opening, 7pm

Umberto Crenca will open his latest gallery in Pawtucket called, “Puzzled: Ode (Owed) to Channing.” Umberto Crenca is a Providence-based artist, and the founder and artistic director of AS220. This exhibit is Crenca’s first solo exhibit in several years, and the exhibit will remain open until April 27th.

Rhode Island Philharmonic Classical 6, 8pm

The Rhode Island Philharmonic is at it again! The orchestra’s concert will include Udow’s The Shattered Mirror: Suite, Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique).

Brown University’s French Department Presents: Providence French Film Festival 2014

This year’s Providence French Film Festival will consist of a variety of films screened at the Cable Car Cinema in Providence. Comedies, dramas, documentaries and more will be shown to those who wish to appreciate the French language in this medium.

Tickets and passes can be purchased at the Cable Car Cinema in advance or on the day of the screening beginning at 9am.  Online ticketing is available at www.cablecarcinema.com for general admission tickets only (no passes/full price only). Pass holders must obtain a ticket for each screening at the Cable Car (limit 2 tickets per screening).
