Lovecraft Film Festival: Double Feature!

Event Details

This Thursday, Providence Public Library will be hosting double feature screenings for the upcoming Lovecraft Readathon on Thursday, August 21st. Don’t miss this series of Lovecraft film adaptations of Call of Cthulhu and The Whisperer in Darkness.

The Call of Cthulhu: The Call of Cthulhu is HP Lovecraft’s most famous story featuring the celebrated monster Cthulhu. The story embodies HPL’s nihilistic world view, his cosmic perspective, and his sense that mankind is doomed by its own insignificance. And it’s a pretty good globe-trotting adventure story.

The Whisperer in Darkness: In The Whisperer in Darkness, folklore professor Albert Wilmarth investigateslegends of strange creatures in the most remote hills of Vermont. His inquiry reveals a terrifying glimpse of the truth that lurks behind the legends.

About the Lovecraft Readathon: This multimedia, interactive event is a collaboration between the Providence Public Library and the Rhode Island Historical Society, designed in the spirit of the Moby-Dick Marathon at the New Bedford Whaling Museum – though a good deal shorter!

What can you expect at the Lovecraft Readathon?

  • A collaborative reading of three Lovecraft stories
  • Weird, dark musical interludes from local musicians
  • Food & drinks from local vendors

The details:

The Lovecraft Readathon will take place Saturday, August 23 from 7:00-10:00pm at the Providence Public Library.
