Nancy Elizabeth Prophet: Calm Assuarance and Savage Pleasure, 2pm
Acclaimed actress, Sylvia Ann Soares, will appear as Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, the Rhode Island School of Design’s first African-American graduate. ‘Prophet’ will share her 1920’s Paris diaries which led the Rhode Island native to an impressive career as a sculptress of international renown.
Duo Pianists: John and Richard Contiguglia, 2:30pm
Rhode Island College’s performing arts series presents John and Richard Contiguglia. The identical twins have collaborated as a piano duo since the age of five. They will perform “A Four Hand Tribute to Schubert,” which is scheduled to include Allegro in A minor, Op. 144, Lebensstürme, variations in A-flat Major on an Original Theme, Op. 35 (D813), and Fantasie in F minor, Op. 103 (D940).

The RISD museum’s dynamic evening events series, Design The Night, kicks off with a celebration of graphic design in “Graphic Design: Now in Production.” At this installment of Design the Night you will get to take part in lively conversations with artists and designers, participate in hands-on art creation, listen to music, and more! Mateo Romero Artist Talk, 5:30pm
Brown University presents contemporary pueblo painter Mateo Romero for an artist talk. Romero was born and raised in Berkeley, California, and his father kept him connected to Rio Grande Pueblo world as well. Romero attended Dartmouth College and studied alongside acclaimed artists Ben Frank Moss and Varujan Boghosian. He earned his MFA in printmaking from the University of New Mexico.

Nancy Elizabeth Prophet Discussion, 5pm
Catherine Little Bert will look at the life of Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, examine her body of work, and consider the obstacles she faced as an African American and as a woman, from the various perspectives of the art world: museums, galleries, and the market place. This is part of a collaborative series of multidisciplinary events that are being funded in part by the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities.
Pianist Jonathan Biss, 8pm
Community MusicWorks will present pianist Jonathan Biss, “one of the most striking North American pianists from the new generation.” Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see this great artist in Rhode Island, as he performs the works of Beethoven, Janacek, and Chopin. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Community MusicWorks’ free music education programming for Providence youth.

David Wax Museum at the Colombus Theatre, 8pm
The Columbus Cooperative proudly presents, David Wax Museum and special guest Wooden Dinosaur upstairs at the Columbus Theatre. David Wax Museum combines latin rhythms, infectious melodies, and call-and-response hollering. DWM was hailed by TIME for its “virtuosic music skill and virtous harmonies” and has built a reputation among concert goers for “kicking up a cloud of excitement.”

Why is there No WaterFire???? When will you announce opening night for this Spring?
Hey Dennis, I wish I could give you a really good explanation of why the 2014 WaterFire Providence event schedule has not been release, but I can’t. Basically we are still trying to make arrangements with our sponsors and we can’t release a schedule that is incomplete or subject to change. So we have to wait. All I can say is that our first event will be in May and we expect to release the schedule in April. So we thank you for your patience and I can tell you that we are as eager to release the schedule as our fans are to see it.
