Dr. Peter Karczmar Discussion on Sleep

karczmarCoastal Medical Sleep Disorders Center Medical Director and Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School Assistant Professor of Medicine Dr. Peter Karczmar will discuss “Sleep: The Final Frontier…And Why Thomas Edison Ruined It.” For most of the human experience, sleep and death walked hand in hand. It was only in the 1950s that we made discoveries that deepened our understanding of what sleep is and why it’s important. Our modern 24/7 world is not conducive to proper sleep, yet we long for a good night’s sleep no less than our ancestors did. Karczmar considers the history of sleep, its representation in literature, and our current understanding of why no one gets enough of it.

Event is free and open to the public.
