Walk Across RI for Peace and Justice

RI Peace Flag Project

Event Details

Join the RI Peace Flag Project as they walk from Westerly to Providence!

Map of Rhode IslandGather in Wilcox Park across from the Episcopal Church at 9am on September 11.  We will have a minute of silence to recognize the importance of the day and honor all the lives that have been lost in 13 years.  The walk will be a visible call to our community to work for the justice that peace requires.

The RI Walk for Peace and Justice will be in the tradition of many other walks/marches.  There was Gandhi’s Great Salt March in India, the Flame Walk from Los Alamos to Hiroshima, the Interfaith Pilgrimage of the Middle Passage, the walks of the Peace Pilgrim and “Grannie D’s” walk across the country for campaign finance reform.

A peace pilgrimage is a walking prayer. A justice march is a political demand. A peace walk may have elements of both and be a deeply integrating experience, for those of us who keep our spiritual practice and political activities compartmentalized, or don’t practice one or the other. Together we will pray, speak out, and let each step draw peace up out of the earth or down from the heavens.
