This weekend in celebration of National Engineers Week, kids investigate the world of engineering at fun-filled activity stations with members of the Society of Women Engineers. Experiment with electrical conductivity, investigate the power of pulley systems, and more!

Bring Your Own Improv

Family Friendly Comedy Show

This interactive improv show welcomes voluntary audience participation!  You can participate in one of three ways: Applaud at a scene you like, yell out fantastic suggestions, or if you feel you’re ready, jump up and get involved with us on stage!!! 

Artists’ Exchange Family Performance Series

Families are invited to join for the Family Performance Series, perfect for all ages, from the young to the young at heart. This weekend is Tandem Tellers. As “Mrs. Frost” and “Lady Winter” Anne Marie and Cindy spin tales of snow, frost and hot chocolate.

Sunday, May 4th

Walk to Cure Arthritis 2014, 9:00am

The Walk to Cure Arthritis raises funds and awareness to fight the nation’s leading cause of disability. The walk features a 3-mile or 1-mile course. Information will be provided about arthritis, and fun activities will be hosted for the entire family. Pet owners are encouraged to bring along their dogs!

Performance Exhibit: The Most Massive Woman Wins, 7:30pm

Challenging, brutal, and hilarious, four woman of varying shapes and sizes sit in the waiting room of a liposuction clinic. The women explore their perceptions of body image and reveal their experiences of dealing with weight issues through monologues, short scenes, and schoolyard rhymes. From painful childhood memories to frustrations with the opposite sex, these experiences both haunt and empower these women as they imagine their way to a new vision of themselves as beautiful and whole.

Dishcrawl: Spring on the Hill, 7:00pm

Join Dishcrawl to explore three award winning restaurants in the Federal Hill Neighbourhood — but the restaurants are  a secret! Ticket holders will be told where to meet 48-hours before the event, if you don’t buy a ticket, you won’t be able to find the event.

Lippitt House Spring Social, 3:00pm

Join in the seasonal kick off of the Lippitt House Museum with a festive celebration. Take advantage of a special opportunity to explore the museum and grounds. Everyone is welcome!

3rd Annual Providence Rotary Jazz Festival, 7:00pm

If you enjoy jazz music, this is the place to be! Nationally known artists, Gray Sargent (Tony Bennett’s guitarist), Marshall Wood (Tony Bennett’s bassist), drummer Gary Johnson, Jim Porcella on vocals and, introducing Christine Fawson, on trumpet and vocals.

Arthur Meyers: Salon at the Athenaeum, 5:00pm

Arthur Meyers, the director of the Middletown, Connecticut library will discuss his recent book publication, Democracy in the Making: The Open Forum Lecture Movement, as the fifth part of the “Cosmology of Conversation” series. Join in for a discussion of ideas, ideals, the history, and the legacy of the open forum lecture movement!

The complexity, diversity, and humor of motherhood will be explored through original readings, performed live on stage.

Wilbury Theatre Group’s Beggars Banquet 2014, 7:00pm

The Wilbury Theatre Group Board of Directors invites you to the second annual ‘Beggars Banquet’ fundraiser. Tom Gleadow, local actor and cabaret director, and Kim Kalunian, a local news personality, will emcee the event. There will be food, drink, games, and live music!

Young Leaders Circle Spring Fundraiser, 8:00pm

When you were a kid, what was your favorite part of summer? The Young Leaders Circle thinks it should include going to camp, trips to the beach, or riding bikes with friends. Unfortunately, many Rhode Island children spend their days inside, playing video games or watching television. This childhood themed fundraiser will benefit United Way’s Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative, to give children a better summer.

Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Season Finale, 8:00pm

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra will be celebrating the culmination of their 69th season by hosting pianist Alon Goldstein. Goldstein will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concert No. 1. The Orchestra will perform Strauss’ Don Juan and Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe Suites.
