Family Fun

Birds from Down UnderThursday, July 28th, 2016
Roger Williams Park Zoo, 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Take a trip to Roger Williams Zoo to visit with more than 450 bird species native to Australia, including grass parakeets, cockatiels and various other parrot species. Each visitor will receive a seed stick and is free to feed the exotic birds while engaging in conversation about their habitats and the environmental challenges they face. Admissionis an additional $3 to zoo admission.

PVD Ghost Tours Thursday, July 28th-Sunday, July 31st, 2016
Prospect Terrace Park – 8 PM to 9:30 PM

Providence Ghost Tours are back for the summer. Join a lantern-led tour for a chilling walk through the darkened streets of the historic East Side of Providence. Listen to the stories about Providence’s haunted past!

Roger Williams Park Zoo Animal Feedings
Spring Weekend Harbor Seal Encounters – Thursday, July 28th; Saturday, July 30th; Sunday, July 31st at 2 PM
Giraffe Feedings – Daily 11:30 to 12 PM

People of all ages are welcome to Roger Williams Zoo for animal feedings! Giraffe feedings take place daily, while seal feedings are offered on the weekends in the spring. Standard zoo admission to attend giraffe feedings, but please RSVP. Seal Encounters are $20 for members, and $25 for non-members.

Food Truck FridayFriday, July 29th, 2016
Carousel Village at Roger Williams Park, 5 PM to 8 PM

People of all ages will delight in “Food Truck Friday” held at Carousel Park in Roger Williams Park! From 5 to 8 PM, local food trucks will be open for dinner while customers enjoy live music and other activities. Pony rides will be offered, in addition to Hasbro’s Boundless Playground and the park carousel being open for use. There will also be a beer garden for the adults to enjoy while they take in the beautiful scenery. There is no cost for entry, but pony/carousel rides and food/beverage will be an additional cost.

Hope Street Farmers Market – Saturday, July 30th, 2016
Lippitt Park, 9 AM to 1 PM

Support local farms and vendors at the Hope Street Farmers Market! Come by to get your locally grown fruits and veggies, freshly caught seafood, just-baked bread, and so much more. The Hope Street Farmers Market runs every Saturday throughout the summer and fall, until October 26th. You can even get your bike tuned up while you shop!

Discover Colonial Newport: Walking Tour Thursday, July 28th, 2016
Brick Market: Museum & Shop, 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM

Enjoy a kid-friendly morning in Newport learning about the extraordinary entrepreneurship and religious diversity of the city’s colonial period in a walking tour starting at the Brick Market.  Tours: $15 per person, $10 Newport Historical Society members, active duty and retired military with ID; $5 for children ages 5-12.

Wake up the Barnyard at Coggeshall Farm – Saturday, July 30th, 2016
Coggeshall Farm Museum, 9 AM to 10 AM

Every Saturday through late August, Coggeshall will open at 9 am for its Wake Up the Barnyard program!  Help feed the chickens, let out the sheep and get the cows ready for the day.  Good for all ages, admission to this program is $5-7.

Portals: The History of the Future Exhibition Thursday, July 28th & Friday, July 29th, 2016
Providence Public Library – 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM

The Providence Public Library is offering a new exhibition called “Portals: The History of the Future“, which will “highlight the material trails left by the people of the past as they looked to the future.” Visitors will be able to take a look at what the future looked like to our predecessors, and how it varies greatly from the reality we live in today. Admission is free for all ages.

All of Everything: Todd Oldham FashionThursday, July 28th – Sunday, July 29th, 2016
Rhode Island School of Design Museum, 10 AM to 5 PM

The “All of Everything” exhibition features original designs by the talented Todd Oldham. His creative designs, well known embellishment work, superb craftsmanship, and unique flair dominated fashion in the 1990s. From a Swarovski crystal-encrusted ensemble to a Pantone non-repeating print design, this exhibition offers 65 complete ensembles in a wide variety of styles, all labors of Oldham’s “intensive design process” and attention to detail. Metlife Family Friday – Friday, July 29th, 2016
Providence Children’s Museum, 5 PM – 8 PM

Families are invited to explore and play at Providence Children’s Museum free of charge! The museum will be free on Friday evenings from 5 PM to 8 PM, sponsored by the Metlife Foundation.

Imagination PlaygroundFriday, July 29th, 2016
Providence Children’s Museum, 11 AM to 2 PM

Children are invited to come play at Imagination Playground with large  blue foam blocks, wheels, spools, tubes and a variety of loose parts. Bring your imagination to life at Providence Children’s Museum every Friday between July 1st and August 26th!

Stars and Night Sky – Saturday, July 30th and Sunday, July 31st, 2016
Providence Children’s Museum, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

The Discovery Studio at Providence Children’s Museum invites kids to come create constellations, moon phase rubbings, and much more. Event is free with admission.

Concerts

WBRU Concert Series: Aurora and Young Lincoln– Friday, July 29th, 2016
WaterPlace Park, Show starts at 7 PM

WBRU proudly presents the 2016 Summer Concert Series! This week, Aurora and Young Lincoln preform at Waterplace Park in downtown Providence. Head down to see some of the nation’s best up-and-coming alternative rock artists. The WBRU concert series will take place every Friday night from July 8th to August 12th. Concerts are always free.

Newport Jazz Festival – Friday, July 29th-Sunday, July 31st, 2016
Fort Adams, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Newport Jazz Festival is back at Fort Adams State Park in historic Newport, Rhode Island. This iconic and highly anticipated festival features a medley of huge names in jazz including Norah Jones, Galactic, Gregory Porter, and many more. Tickets for the event, along with the full line up and schedule, are available here. If you have a valid student ID, you can get tickets as low as $20!

Movies on the Block: The Hunger Games – Thursday, July 28th, 2016
Grants Block, 8:15 PM

Head to Grant’s Block this Thursday around sundown for Movies on the Block! This week, “The Hunger Games” will be playing. Dine at a surrounding restaurant for dinner then settle into your blankets and chairs for the feature movie! Admission is free.
