WaterFire – Saturday, August 20th, 2016
A WaterFire “Clear Currents” Lighting sponsored by Fidelity Investments and National Grid
Sunset at 7:37 PM, fires stay lit until 12:30 AM

All Full WaterFire installations light up over eighty braziers from Waterplace Park to Memorial/South Main Street Park on scheduled evenings. Lighting occurs shortly after sunset and the event continues until half past midnight.

Family Fun

Shape Play – Thursday, August 18th, 2016
Providence Children’s Museum, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

This Thursday, come to the Providence Children’s Museum to learn all about shapes and geometry in the museum’s Discovery Studio, a space to explore art and science! Children can discover different kinds of symmetry and create new designs and patterns with a variety of shapes.

Sing With B: Summer Family Music Sing-a-Long Series – Thursday, August 18th, 2016
Sing With B Music, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

If you and your child love music, head over to Sing With B Music in North Kingstown this Thursday evening for a sing-a-long music class that is sure to be fun for all ages.  Family admission is $13, so enroll today!

Rogues & Scoundrels Walking Tour – Friday, August 19th, 2016
Brick Market: Museum & Shop, 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM

Bring the whole family to Newport for an exciting walking tour about some of Newport’s historical residents: pirates, criminals and scoundrels. Tours depart from the Brick Market and last approximately 75 minutes, and are $15 for adults and $5 for children.

Family Fun Friday at Blithewold – Friday, August 19th, 2016
Blithewold Mansion, 11 AM to 1 PM

Blithewold Mansion’s Family Fun Fridays are a great family-friendly way to enjoy a summer afternoon! Bring a snack, a blanket to sit on, and enjoy the show as you dance and sing along with the kids to a variety of educational and interactive musical performances. After the performance from 11 to 12, there will be a nature-inspired craft activity, face painting, and pizza from 12 to 1 pm.  The concert is free with Blithewold admission.

Museums

Art in the Garden – Thursday, August 18th – Sunday, August 21st, 2016
Blithewold Mansion – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

This summer,Blithewold welcomes artist Stephen Procter’s handmade ceramics to the Blithewold gardens. 20 carefully crafted vessels for stand harmoniously in gardens throughout the estate, so come out and take a look around!

Concerts

RWP Pops – Thursday, August 18th, 2016 (rain date August 19th)
Roger Williams Park Temple to Music, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

This Thursday, the Rhode Island Foundation presents RWP Pops: a free concert at the Roger Williams Park Temple to Music in honor of the foundation’s centennial.  Bring a blanket and the whole family to enjoy music played by the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and food from some of Rhode Islands best food trucks!

Moga – Friday, August 19th, 2016
The Met, Doors at 8:00 PM, show at 9:00 PM

This Friday, Moga is playing at the Met!  The show will be good for all ages, so come out and enjoy the music!  Tickets are $8 in advance, or $10 at the door.

Parlour Jazz Jam – Sunday, August 21st, 2016
The Parlour, Doors at 4:00 PM, show at 5:00 PM

This Sunday, the Parlour is hosting a “Jazz Jam” that is sure to be fun for musicians and jazz lovers of all ages!  The featured house band will be Manuel Morales (trumpet), Alex Han (keys), Sam Kurzontkowski (upright bass) and Ben Dicke (drums).  Tickets are only $5, so come out and listen to the music!

Theatre

Avenue Q – Thursday, August 18th to Sunday, August 21st, 2016
Ocean State Theatre Company, 7:30 PM (Thu./Fri./Sat.) and 2:00 PM (Sat./Sun.)

If you love musicals, humor and puppets, then Avenue Q is the show for you!  Audiences follow the story of Princeton, a recent college graduate, as he moves to New York and Avenue Q as he tries to navigate post-grad life with his new-found friends.  Tickets are available now, and range in cost from $39 to $59.

Seussical – Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st, 2016
